WIFI, a new member of the family!! It is incredible how much technology affect in our society nowadays. We are surrounded by machines all the way around and almost everything we do works because of them.
Personally, I reckon that the internet has the biggest impact in our daily life. We use it for everything; to work, to study, to communicate with family and friends, to search for jobs and apply for them, to book our holidays, to buy stuff, to watch movies,...it’s a never ending list.
However, I didn´t realise how important it is to me, until I moved to a new flat and I spent a while without it. I almost went crazy and I was like a junkie looking for wifi everywhere I went. So my behaviour made me think about it.
Could I be addicted to it? Do we use it or abuse it? Perhaps, knowing the answer would scare me…
After all, thank god, I have internet at home again. Now I know I couldn’t live without it for too long because it makes my life much easier and comfortable. What do you think about yourself, could you live without it?
I have had bad days in my life, but yesterday was the worst that I can remember. I got up late because the alarm clock didn’t go off. Although I didn’t have breakfast to save time, I still missed the train. Because of that, I arrived thirty minutes late to work. After a busy day solving problems with customers and a hard argument with my boss, who is more stubborn than a grumpy old man, I took a break to eat something because I was so hungry that I could have eaten a horse. Instead of it being a quiet lunch, a disaster occurred. While I was waiting for my meal, the waiter tripped over a dog and spilled all the soup on my blouse. What would you do in that moment? I kept calm, said “don´t worry” and returned to my office. The problems didn’t finish there. During an important meeting my husband called me because our house was flooding. Oh no! I had left the tap on. He couldn’t go so I went back home quickly. When I arrived at my neighborhood I realized that I had left my keys in the office! After this awful day I could have become mad, but instead of that I kept calm and told myself “don`t worry and be happy”, so I definitely reckon that the most important thing I have is my enormous patience, don’t you agree?
A great effort from Juan. Check out some of his vovabulary and collocations!
Do you have a screw loose?
Have you ever lost a screw?
If somebody ever asked you what you would take with you to a desert island, it’s very important to take your screw! The last time that somebody decided to get stranded on one, he just took a ball and he ended by calling it Wilson!
My screw is a fantastic one; it is highly resistant and keeps my head in its place. Occasionally, it serves me by solving situations that drive me crazy, like that time when I was doing an exam and the leg of the table was broken; fortunately I had my screw at hand!
On another occasion, two Jehovah’s witnesses suddenly assaulted me in the street, and I was not able to make them leave until I started to shoot them with my screw. However, it’s not all good. From then on, I realized that I cannot lose my screw so easily.
My screw also has special sentimental value. It belonged to my grandfather, who gave it to me just before going raving mad. My grandfather was an art collector, and he found it in the frame of a picture from Van Goth that he bought. That’s the reason it’s so important to me, and would have to be mad to give it somebody else!
Definitely, I think that a screw is a fundamental piece of equipment that none of us should lose but we often do, and the reason, because nowadays the world is so crazy!
